UK Flowers delivery - FAQ

Care for your flowers

UK Flowers Delivery
How do I care for my flower delivery?

Firstly, it depends on how your flower delivery is presented. You could have received:

Cut flowers wrapped in tissue
If you receive flowers in paper or tissue, remove all of the foliage which will falls below the water line, then cut the stems diagonally with a sharp implement in a sink of warm water. Put them in a vase of warm water mixed with the plant food provided by your florist.

If there is no flower food provided, and you have none available, some people choose to add a dash of fizzy drink (Coca cola, lemonade) or bleach (just a dash) or both to the water. The bleach does help prevent bacteria growing which shorten the length of your flower delivery. The sugar in the fizzy drink helps act as food.

However, if available, use flower feed manufactered for the job of keeping your delivery of flowers looking good for as long as possible.

Flowers in a container
If you receive a delivery of flowers with floral foam in a vase or container, be certain it is full of water every day. treat the water with the floral food provided by your florist. Feel under the flowers for a place where you can add the water. Otherwise, slowly pour water into the center of the flower arrangement, keeping a finger in the flower container to gauge the levelof the water.

Flowers in a vase
For flowers in a vase, always check that the water is clear. If it turns cloudy, empty it and add fresh water mixed preferably with the flower feed provided by your florist.Re-cutting the stems with a sharp knife before placing them in back in the vase helps.

Where best to keep flowers?
No matter what type of delivery of flowers you have received, keep your flowers off of televisions, appliances and heaters or air conditioning units. Keep flowers away from drafts and out of direct sunlight.

What conditions do flowers like?
Cut flowers always do best in cool conditions and will fade much faster if exposed to heat and direct sunlight.

How long should my flower delivery last?
Most flower arrangements can last 4-7 days, sometimes longer, depending on the type of flower and the care recieved. In some cases, cut flowers can last up to three weeks!

The water in the vase has turned yellow and cloudy.
This means that bacteria are growing in the water. Bacteria clog stems and will shorten the life of cut flowers. If your water starts to turn cloudy, replace the water with fresh water, mixed if possible with the flower feed provided by your florist. Re-cut the stems with a sharp knife under warm water before placing the flowers in the vase of fresh water.

Should I put my flower arrangement in the sun?
No. even though growing flowers require sunshine, cut flowers will fade much faster if exposed to heat and direct sunlight. To keep flowers fresher longer, place them away from strong sunlight and drafts.

Tips for selecting flowers.
When selecting flowers, look for flowers with upright, firm petals and buds beginning to open. Yellow, spotted or drooping leaves are signs of age. Always place them in warm water containing fresh flower food to promote flower opening.
