Flowers and Houseplants are healthy!

Flowers and plants are good for your health!

It seems a far fetched claim that flowers are good for your health, but read on. In the case of houseplants, it's a fact that houseplants are good for you, some are certainly healthier than others.

Such houseplants absorb potentially harmful chemicals from the air. Such chemicals include those found in varnishes , paints, dry cleaning fluids and car exhaust fumes, as well as tobacco smoke. Houseplants themselves are not damaged in absorbing such airborne chemicals, and if they are looked after in the normal way, can continue to absorb chemicals as they continue to grow.
Some of these flowers and houseplants are particularly easy to look after, especially chrysanthemums, ivy and dracaena.

All indoor plants benefit from a brightly lit position out of direct sunlight and draughts. The houseplants below will benefit from a regular misting of lukewarm water to prevent drying of leaftips. This will also help to clean the leaves and to keep the plants breathing well.

Spider Plant (Chlorophytum) This houseplant with its tufts of long stripy leaves is great at removing chemicals from the air.

Ivy (Hedera helix) - available in many varieties. Some with variegated varieties are particularly pleasing to the eye.

Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum) - gives pure white flower 'spathes' throughout the year as well as improving air quality and a touch of class to your room. Its large glossy leaves will droop when it needs watering.

Boston Fern (Nephrolepis exaltata),Kimberley Queen (Nephrolepis obliterata) as well as ferns in general. With pleasant feathery leaves, they benefit from a regular mist with a spray over their leaves.
