Flower styles and designs

Traditional triangle arrangement.

This is an arrangement of flowers in floral foam, with an outline of suitable foliage. It is a front facing design in a symmetrical triangle shape and is suitable as a gift, can be placed on a sideboard or table. It is traditional in style and often lends itself to long lasting traditional styles of flowers. Carnations, spray carnations, chrysanths, roses and alstromeria are all suitable for this design.

Asymmetrical arrangement.

This arrangement is a less formal triangle arrangement, longer on one side than the other. This can be a traditional style , but also lends itself to a more modern mix of flowers, without lots of flowers needed.

Long and low design.

This arrangement the flowers are kept low and the design stretches sideways. It is a good style for on a table as a decoration for a meal or wedding. For extra features candles can be added to the centre. This design is then particularly popular at Christmas as a gift to be placed on the dinner table. It is suitable for table flowers, because it's design is low, you are able to see over the top and still talk to wedding guests. It is an all round design and can be viewed from any angle.

Posy arrangement.

This design again is popular as a table centre design. It is all round and can be viewed from any angle. It is also popular for a gift to a hospital, as it is easy to care for, just needs water adding daily, but it also doesn't take up too much room on a locker. It is usual to use more traditional styles of flowers such as chrysanths. Carnations, spray carnations, roses, alstromeria and suitable foliage.

Modern designs.

These styles of arrangements can take many designs. But they do usually only include a limited number of flowers and so these flowers are often what are called choice flowers such as more expensive, unusal or exotic flowers, birds of paradise, roses, helconias, sunflowers, gerberas, proteas, and orchids to name but a few. Parallel or continental designs are also more modern in design but do include many more flowers. They are usually made up of groups of flowers, foliages or accessories, including moss, stones, wire etc. It is a style which started to become popular in the 1980's and has a very European influence. Usually groups stand vertically, and then there are groups and blocks of other interesting materials and textures at the base.

Planted bowl/basket.

A selection of houseplants, foliage and flowering, arranged for effect in a suitable container. A lovely gift and extremely popular for men.

Pot-et-fleur.

This is a design which began to be popular in the 1960's. It is a selection of growing foliage houseplants, with a simple arrangement of flowers included in. An alternative to just an arrangement or just a planted bowl design.

Handtied bouquet.

This is a bouquet arranged spiralled in the hand to be placed directly into a vase. It is often wrapped in cellophane for a gift effect and can be left in this wrapping a few days as this serves as a vase as it is a freestanding design. After a few days this needs unpacking and stems need re cutting.

Traditional bouquet.

These are usually sent as a gift and arranged into cellophane. They need unwrapping and stems need re cutting and arranging into a vase. Ideal for people who like to arrange their own flowers.
